The Black British Book Festival is Europe’s largest Black Literature Festival. It was created to celebrate new and emerging Black British Authors across all genres. The Festival was founded by Selina Brown.

In 2021 we held the UK’s first Black British Book Festival. Despite the pandemic restrictions, the event was a great success, attracting over 600 attendees from near and far. We built upon this success for 2022, doubling our numbers and attracting over 1,300 people. The Black British Book Festival aims to support Black writers at all stages in their careers, connecting them with opportunities and helping them to help themselves.

We understand that the publishing world can be very daunting for Black writers, especially due to the multiple barriers to entry. Through our work and the festival, we aim to demystify the industry making it more accessible. We believe passionately that engaging with literature, innovatively, can bring people from different backgrounds closer together.

Through our grassroots-based projects, we are committed to promoting reading for pleasure to children and adults from marginalised communities with low literacy rates.
