55 George V Avenue, United KingdomThe Margate Bookie began in a disused warehouse in 2015. It now holds a four-day day festival at Turner Contemporary and runs workshops and courses at five venues.
The Bookie became a registered charity in 2017. From a tiny first audience of 80 people, it’s grown to 3,000 visitors a year.

The Association is entirely egalitarian, with no hierarchy/board. It is run by the members themselves, moderated initially by the Emirates Literature Foundation. The Emirates Literature Foundation will cover the administration and set up costs for the Global Association of Literary Festivals, in the spirit of friendship, for the first four years (established May 2020). Through a mutual recognition of the power of literature, the Association promotes an appreciation of different cultures, facilitating understanding and building bridges across countries and communities and recognising areas where we can all work in a smarter, more connected way
The Global Association of Literary Festivals is committed to the protection and privacy of its members and follows international best practices not to share any private or personal information without an individual’s consent. The Association aims to document all its events and conferences and to share content on social media and in highlights videos. By attending one of our conferences and events, you consent to your voice and likeness being used without compensation in recordings and still images by the Association.
